The 3rd Theater Festival, organized by ŞanoWan, started with halay and zılgıt. The festival was dedicated to Jina Mahsa Amini, who was murdered as a result of torture by the ‘morality police’ in Iran, in the theater hall filled with local costumes.
The 3rd Theater Festival, performed by ŞanoWan, who carries out theater activities under its new name in Van, with the motto “Ew roj wê hile, ew bihar wê bê”, started with zılgıt and pulled dances. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van Deputy Murat Sarısaç, Presidential candidate Faruk Biner from the yellow list in the Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VANTSO) elections, as well as many citizens attended the theater festival, which was getting crowded.
The festival, which started with the “Kulîlkên Hişk” exhibition, first started with the dengbêj strans sung by Dengbêj Usiv. After Usiv, the participants stopped at the dance with the dance airs he said. At the gate of the theater, the picture board of Jina Mahsa Amini, who was murdered by the ‘Moral police’ in Iran, touched the participants.
‘Our biggest wish is for people to watch the games in their own language’
Speaking to Serhat News here, Şanowan Actor and Director Nazmi Karaman said that he had previously been working in Van under the name of Mencel Tiyotro. Karaman briefly commented on his work and the meaning of theater: “I have been coming to Van for 4-5 years and we are producing a play with my friends. Each one has its own beautiful games. There is a lot of interest. I have witnessed for a few days that people are constantly coming and buying game tickets. Normally, tickets are bought on the last day, but now the culture of arriving 10 days in advance and buying tickets has begun to be experienced. The name ŞanoWan suited Van very well, especially since it was in Kurdish. The lack of Kurdish games in the region is a major shortcoming. In this sense, it is our greatest desire that people embrace culture and arts and watch their plays in their own language.”
‘Man exists through art’
Seher Aslan, who has been a theater student for about a year and also takes part in plays, expressed that people exist through art. Aslan said, “I think the field where we can express ourselves best is art and stage. Because theater is a branch of art that tells people humanely. That’s why I invite everyone to the theater. Let’s make music. Let’s read, let’s read and spread.”
The opening speech was given at the start of the festival. Making a short speech, ŞanoWan actress Perinaz Delazy said that they dedicate the festival to all resisting Iranian and world women in the person of Jîna Mahsa Amini, who was murdered by the “Iranian morality police”. After the speech, the theatrical play “Hayat Seni Çok Seviyorum” written by Writer-Poet İlhan Sami Çomak, who has been imprisoned for 28 years, was staged. During the theater screening, Çomak’s childhood and prison photographs, as well as manuscripts, were reflected on the stage. The play, which attracted the great attention of the audience, lasted about 2 hours.
The festival will continue with the play “Life I Love You So Much” at 15:00 and “Serbaz” at 20:00.
